Waist belt plate - 43rd

This is an original brass plate, engraved with Arabic numerals. This is the design used by the majority of the British Army in our period. It was used to fasten the soldiers white buff leather waist belt, onto which was attached his bayonet scabbard

This plate is from the Hudson Highlands and is one of  two known extant plates belonging to the 43rd of Foot.
