Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet
In July we got to recreate the discharged 43rd soldier, Edward Rose, at an Industrial Heritage site. Hat by the talented Thomas Whitfield, suit and cravat were made by Roma Webb following a pattern created by Henry Cook which was drafted from an original 1770's Rhode Island linen coat. Shoes are by Andy Burke and the hose are from the Quartermasterie. The cane is an original. The lathe is a replica of that set down in the Mechanick Exercises of Joseph Moxon - researched and built by Graham Webb. We are delighted to share the pictures and the experimentation with three or six top buttons of the waistcoat left open. We're leaning towards three ourselves.

Whittington Castle
In Septmber the 43rd provided a soldier for the Peninsula Barracks timeline of British Light Infantry. Built by Sir Christopher Wren for Charles II as a British Versailles Palace but unfinished. During the Seven Years War and the American War of Independence it was used as a prison for captured French, Spanish and Americans. After the AWI it became a full barracks. The buildings are superb and highly likely to have been the place where LC Thomas Fowkes formed the regiment in 1741. A super place to get period correct pictures you might think? With only two of us there and the public on top of us from beginning to end, there was no chance at all. A museum curator snapped this one as we prepared to leave.
